Not Today, Nor Tomorrow

Not to give the lecture that would be good for them
nor the one that would most make sense to them
the one that would lead them inexorably onward
ploddingly, like a procession of fat legged elephants
No, not that one today but another
the one that you wanted to give to yourself
the one that barely made any sense at all
that took flight in fits and starts
soaring above the wide pavements of reality
The one that you would have thought
an ideal reader--perhaps only God alone
could interpret and understand
And, when your wings beat furiously
and you flew Icarus-like too close to the sun
the wax attachment coming undone
the ululating myrmidons will call to you
as you fall into their cold ocean below
